Future of cities

Experience a day in 2030 to see how your business can benefit from the opportunities shaping transportation.

Our four scenarios explore the ways in which the transportation of people and goods is being affected by the decade’s essential transformation objectives of decarbonization, digitalization, holistic impact, and resource efficiency.

Capturing Carbon

It’s an early start for me this morning as we’re bringing the city’s third carbon-capture plant online in just a few days.

Together, the three plants will remove over 20,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year.

The new plant is powered renewably by the port’s microgrid, which is jointly owned by many of the local businesses.

It’s great to know that every time one of these plants comes online, it takes us a huge step closer to becoming a net-zero city.

Smart Campus

Our company headquarters is on a vibrant ‘smart campus’ that includes modern work spaces, university buildings, homes, and parks.

This is one of many revitalized districts that integrate living, working, and learning with the latest technology.

I enjoy working here as I can walk home in under 15 minutes, and everything I need is close by.

Many of the roads in this area have become car-free zones, and some are even being transformed into green spaces.

Going Local

Even though I buy many items online, I love shopping in this vibrant area as it offers much more than just groceries.

The city has started to feel like a lot of small towns joined together rather than a single sprawling suburb.

The local microgrid for this district even includes a biofuel plant that converts waste food from the area into energy.

In fact, it’s hard to imagine that this street was almost unlivable a few years ago because of floods during the rainy season.

Community action

This evening, I’m meeting our district improvement group in a dedicated fitness and wellbeing area nearby.

I come here regularly to use the sports facilities, but there are also exhibitions, installations, and some great places to eat.

Tonight, we’re discussing the use of public city sensor data to further improve the air quality in this part of the city.

We’re also launching our own district-wide ‘neighborhood watch’ app to deter crime and improve emergency response.
